Walpole Arms at Itteringham

Another of our regular haunts and well worth a drive is The Walpole Arms at Itteringham – a stones throw from the Blicking Estate.   A lovely traditional 16th century pub serving great food – always popular and buzzy.  Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence for 2015.   We can certainly vouch for the Sunday lunch, but do book ahead.    It is worth combining your visit with a walk around the lovely Blickling Estate or visit Blickling Hall.

Saturday morning Aylsham Farmers’ market and Blickling Hall

On the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month, Aylsham hosts a FARMA accredited market in the National Trust market place. FARMA is a not for profit co-operative of farmers and producers selling on a local scale.   Farmers’ market organisers seek to ensure the produce on sale is genuinely local and to promote high standards.

Gorgeous breads at the market

There is a great atmosphere, helped by the foot tapping sounds of One Foot in the Groove, an “informal” jazz band playing outside The Black Boys pub.

Great range of goods on sale – wonderful bread, meats, fruit and veg, cakes and preserves.  We managed to load ourselves up with goodies for the weekend !!

Close by is the beautiful National Trust property Blickling Hall.

This weekend the Hall is decked for Christmas with a theme “Taking back Christmas” to give a flavour of how past residents have celebrated Christmas.

A huge effort had gone into the Hall decorations and great enthusiasm from the participants….
